History of the Fair

Buckland Monachorum’s Summer Fair is traditionally held on the second Saturday in June and for many years was known as the June Fair although the event seems to have developed from an older Village event known as the May Revels. At one time the Fair was held in the grounds of Pound House but it then moved to the grounds of the village primary school. Following the success of the Big Lunch in 2012, (which was held in the main street of the Village) it was decided to move the Fair into the Village Street for 2013 and to rename it the ‘Summer Fair’. The Covid pandemic forced the cancellation of the event in 2020 & 2021 but it returned in 2022. The profits from the day are shared by the organisations that help put on the Fair.
